Compound Words

A compound word is made up of two shorter words which have been joined together.

                             dragon        +           fly         =         dragonfly

Have a go at making your own compound words using the words in the shapes below. Can you match a word from the square with a word from the triangle? The first half of each word has been done for you.

For example - farm + yard = farmyard

1. pan + ?  [, bow, fish, yard, side, ball, house, cake, ]

2. rain + ?  [, bow, fish, yard, side, ball, house, cake, ]

3. star + ?  [, bow, fish, yard, side, ball, house, cake, ]

4. foot + ?  [, bow, fish, yard, side, ball, house, cake, ]

5. sea + ?  [, bow, fish, yard, side, ball, house, cake, ]

6. light + ?  [, bow, fish, yard, side, ball, house, cake, ]

Remember, to make a compound word always write the two words next to each other.
