Electrical Conductors

Electricity is made at power stations and comes to our schools and homes through cables so we can plug in TVs, kettles, computers etc.

Electricity is also made by batteries so we can make portable toys and torches work etc.

Electricity is very
dangerous for us to touch.

Conduct means to help something travel.

Insulate means to protect something.

Some materials can conduct electricity and make it travel to where we want it to go.

Some materials can insulate us against electricity and make it safe for us to touch a place where there is electricity so we do not hurt ourselves.

Would the materials that each of these objects are made of make good electrical conductors or good electrical insulators?

1) The wood from this tree?
[, electrical conductor, electrical insulator]

3) The metal from this paper clip?
[, electrical conductor, electrical insulator]

5) The copper wire from this cable?
[, electrical conductor, electrical insulator]

7) The glass from this light bulb?
[, electrical conductor, electrical insulator]

2) The plastic from this paper clip?
[, electrical conductor, electrical insulator]

4) The lead from this pencil?
[, electrical conductor, electrical insulator]

6) The rubber from these gloves?
[, electrical conductor, electrical insulator]

8) The steel from this nail?
[, electrical conductor, electrical insulator]
