Parachute Activities

Music Dots – Early Years

For this game you need two sets of cards with dots on them. One with one dot on it; one with two dots and so on. There should be enough pairs of cards for each child to have one.

With the parachute laid flat on the ground, place one set of cards around the edge of the parachute, spread out evenly, but in any order. Each child holds one of the other set of cards.

Music is played and the children walk round the edge of the parachute in a clockwise direction. When the music stops the children stand still.

The children, who are standing next to a card on the parachute which has the same number of dots on it as there are on the card they are holding, sits down on the section of the parachute with their card on it.

The music starts again and the children left continue walking round the parachute, until the music stops. And so on until every child is sitting down. All the children hold their two cards in the air to check that they have the right cards. Perhaps they could in turn count out loud the number of dots on their card.

Cards can be changed and the game played again. This game could be played with cards with proper numerals on them, or with cards with colours or shapes on them.
