Parachute Activities

Rhythm Claps

The children sit in the circle in the parachute tent (see parachute tent activity).

The idea of the game is for everyone to sing a song that they all know and then set up some actions to fit in with the number of beats in a bar for that song.

The type of actions that would fit in well with the song include slapping the floor with your hand or your leg or clapping your own hands or the person's hand next to you.

If needs be the teacher can get the children to split into groups and come up with their own set of actions for the song and then bring the whole group back together in the parachute tent and each group can teach the others their actions as they sing the song.

Here are some of the actions they may wish to work with - slap your right leg with your right hand, slap your left leg with your right hand, clap the right hand of the person sitting on your left, slap the floor with both hands, clap the left hand of the person on your right with your right hand etc.
