Parachute Activities

Degrees

After “Fractions” which is breaking up the parachute circle into fractions, this game goes on to talk about degrees and angles.

Make a large disc of card or paper 100 cm in diameter. Mark on it the main degrees of a circle, i.e. 0º, 90º, 180º, 270º, 360º.

Place this disc in the centre of the parachute which is lying on the floor. A child sits or stands in the centre of this disc. The child holds the ends of two ribbons, which reach out to two other children who are standing at the edge of the parachute.

All the other children spread themselves around the edge of the parachute. By moving the ribbons the children can form various angles. The teacher calls out an angle to which the children must move. 90º; A Right Angle; 180º; A Straight Line; 45º; Half of Ninety Degrees. And so on.
