Parachute Activities

Horse riding

The parachute is placed flat on the floor. The players stand in pairs round the edge. Each pair should be of a similar size to their partner. One player is the horse, and kneels on the edge of the parachute facing the centre. The other player is the rider. They place themselves over the horse facing the middle.

The riders shows that they care for their horse by patting their back, or ruffling their hair or give the horse a tickle.

The leader starts the race by calling out “GO” and the riders jump off their horse and run round the parachute in a clockwise direction.

When all the riders are back on their own horses, the horse and rider swop places.

On the leader’s command “GO” the race takes place again, but this time the riders run round in an anti-clockwise direction.

The game could be varied by making the riders go under the horses before they start to run and repeat that movement when they get back.

Some players could become fences.

They could lie down around the outside of the circle and the riders have to step over them as they go round.
