Parachute Activities

Parachute Machine

Start with the players standing in a circle without the parachute being used.

As a group, decide on several moves, which simulate the actions of a machine, e.g.

Hands starting at knee level on the right, rising over the head and finishing at kneel level on the left.

Hands shunting across the body right to left, crouching down and standing up.

Avoid moves that involve turning round.

When different moves have been decided on, allocate them randomly around the players.

The moves can be mixed up, or you can have several of the same together before changing.

When everyone has agreed on the move they are going to make, have a practice.

The leader introduces the parachute, rolled up like a sausage, which is passed through the machine.

If a move does not work, everyone works on changing it so that it does.

When the parachute is moving smoothly around the circle through the machine, get the players to think up a noise to go with their actions.
