Safe Surfing on the Internet

@school offers a safe environment for children to experience the Internet.
As long as children stay within www.atschool.co.uk and its recommended links, they can surf in safety.
In addition to using www.atschool.co.uk, software programs can be downloaded, which prevent access to unsuitable material on the worldwide web. These programs should run, in the background, on your computer:

Another way of protecting children from undesirable material is to change the settings for your browser. For example, on Internet Explorer, follow these procedures:
1. Click on the 'Tools' drop-down menu and choose 'Internet Options'.

2. Then choose the 'Content' tab and click on the 'Enable' button in the 'Content Advisor' section.

3. Within the 'Content Advisor' section you can set the 'Ratings'.

4. Click on 'Approved sites' and type in your own list of sites that you wish to approve.

There are a variety of settings that can be changed on Internet Explorer and procedures may vary slightly between versions - consult your 'Help' menu or software instructions for more detailed information.
Other browsers like Netscape and AOL also allow you to change settings which censor unsuitable material - again, consult your 'Help' menu or relevant software instructions for further details.
