Teacher Notes

KS2 Year 4 Sentence Level - adjectives

This activity requires children to find the adjectives in the three sentences and then type them into the list of cold adjectives placing them into the correct order of how cold they are. This is a good activity for children to recognise adjectives and also to test the different meanings of words that have a similar meaning.

Cold Adjectives

There are many different adjectives that describe cold temperatures. You can make your writing more interesting by choosing a word which explains exactly how cold something is- not very cold, very cold or somewhere inbetween.

Find an adjective that describes a cold temperature in each of the three sentences below.

Instead of degrees, the thermometer below uses adjectives. Type the adjectives that you have found into the correct blank spaces next to the thermometer. The adjectives are listed in order of 'coldness'. There are three adjectives missing from the thermometer's scale.

1. Nothing beats a cool drink on a summer’s day.

2. The campsite showers were chilly.

3. This morning it was freezing outside because of a heavy snowfall.
