Alliteration

Alliteration is often used in poetry. Alliteration means two or more words which are next to each other have the same sound at the beginning of each word.

Example

The words highlighted in blue are an example of alliteration because all three words start with an 's' sound.

The slippery snake slid through the grass.

Read these sentences. Can you tell which contain alliteration?

1) The tall, towering trees swayed in the wind.

2) The fish swam quickly through the water.

3) The merry men marched through the field.

4) The bird flew silently through the woods.

5) The children chuckled loudly during class.

6) The massive, mean monster moved closer and closer.
