Parachute Activities

Answer First

For this game the parachute is on the floor laid out flat. Numbers are on the parachute, spread round the edge.

The children are standing, or sitting, in groups of three or four round the edge. The teacher calls out a number, which is the answer to the sum. Using the numbers on the parachute, each group has to work out a sum which will produce the answer given by the teacher. The sum must use the same number of digits as there are children in the group (3 or 4).

When they have worked it out, they go and sit on the parachute next to the numbers they have used – one child to each digit.

As an example; if the teacher has said 18, the three children could have gone to sit on 7,8 and 3 because 7+8+3 = 18. Or they could have used 2, 3 and 3, because (3x3)+ 2 = 18.

Another example; when the group consists of four children, could be the teacher saying 31 and the children going to the numbers 10, 12 and 9 because 10 + 12 + 9 = 31.
