Parachute Activities

Walking on Water

The players hold the parachute downwards at arm’s length so that most of the parachute is on the ground.

One player walks onto the parachute.

The leader calls out various weather conditions.

While these are done the player on the parachute tries to walk around the parachute at about halfway from the centre.

When the weather is sunny, it is possible for the walker to be lifted right off the ground and can continue to walk right round.

WEATHER CONDITIONS;

SUNSHINE. All players hold the parachute at waist height using both hands and leaning back to make the parachute taut.

RAIN. The players drum the fingers of one hand on the parachute while keeping it taut with the other hand.

BREEZE. Players shake the parachute gently to send ripples across the surface.

STORM. Players shake the parachute vigorously and out of time with each other.

FOG. A few of the players are told to move slowly under the parachute, with their eyes closed, with their hands searching the way in front of them until they reach the other side.

WHIRLPOOL. The players walk the whole parachute round in a clockwise direction, then turn round and continue in an anti-clockwise way, holding the parachute at waist height.

TIDAL WAVE. The players raise their arms above their heads and the parachute is walked into the centre and back out again
