LOOK! SAFE SURFING FOR YOUR CHILD
@School - young children primary education, national curriculum activities
The Internet is now an established part of every day life in the home.

Like the phone or TV, it offers your child great opportunities but it comes with potential dangers. The best way to ensure your child's 'on-line safety' is to learn about the Internet yourself, then you can monitor their activity and avoid danger. In particular, consider the following :

Website Protection
Unknown websites may contain adult, unsuitable or abusive material and may encourage closer inspection. Warn your child about such sites so they can be avoided. Sophisticated software is now available to protect children from unsafe websites and often comes with helpful advice for family Internet users.

Unknown e-mails
Unknown e-mails may come with invitations - like strangers, your child should avoid them. Don't open or respond to unknown e-mails and ensure your child doesn't either.

Personal Details
Your home address, phone number and child's school details are personal. Ensure your child does not issue these on-line, along with any other private information you wish them to withhold. Neither you nor your child should ever reveal your e-mail/Internet passwords.

Personal Meetings
Like phone calls, e-mails can lead to meetings. Never let your child meet someone contacted on e-mail unless you know about it and are happy for him or her to do so. Internet users can create 'false identities' so make sure you are around when a meeting takes place. The 'Golden Rule' is to ensure that you are aware of your child's on-line contacts and have approved them.

Credit Details
The Internet is designed to make shopping very easy - so make sure your child doesn't have access to your on-line credit card information without your permission and guidance. It's also worth remembering that 'adult websites' often use credit card details to prove 'adult status' before allowing access to on-line material that is not suitable for your child.
  The Law
Downloading material from the Internet may involve legal responsibilities and copyright issues. Read all instructions before downloading software and make sure your child keeps within the law.

The Internet Watch Foundation
The Internet Watch Foundation monitors unsuitable material and reports illegal activity to the police. If you have a concern you can report it to the IWF on www.internetwatch.org.uk

@school Helps
@school is continuing to make surfing the internet safer and by teaming up with Viglen and Inty can provide primary school teachers and parents peace of mind, by providing content through the ClassLink™ intY™ access server, which sits in the stream of information, ensuring that sites are subsequently vetted and up-to-date.
